Dodgeball: throwing

There are different types of techniques in throwing the ball. Some of the throws can be seen as goalkeeper throws. For example the side arm throw and the over arm throw. When throwing the ball you need to generate the power by putting your arm through the ball as the ball is released. When the ball is thrown the ball needs to be aimed towards the legs so it is harder for the opponents catch.

This is a type of throw in dodge ball on how to generate power

Too improve my technique I need to swing my arm back as far as possible but still in a comfortable position so I can generate enough power to be able to catch the player off guard.

Dodgeball: rule regulations

Player are expected to be honest and take themselves out when the time comes or the referee will call you out. Once a player is out, they must stand back against the teams right side wall. Do not leave the request all court during the game unless an injury occurs. If a player needs to walk off due to injury they need to give notice to the referee so he can stop play. When the player goes for the ball at the start of the game, the player must pass the ball past the retreat line to be able to throw the ball at the apposition team. When the game has started all players must start at the very back of the wall. All players must be touching the wall so everyone’s start point is the same. This makes it fair in every round/game.

Formations and tactics

A formation is a group of players assigned to positions. All 11 players are put in the position they are strongest. A player’s position in a formation generally defines whether a player has a mostly defensive or attacking role, and whether they tend to play towards one side of the pitch or centrally.

A tactic is a type of play the coach makes. These are types of tactics.

Main individual tactics for attacking

  • Play the ball immediately, don’t let your team-mates lose their markers for nothing. Lose your marker immediately after passing the ball.
  • Always try to be in an unmarked position.
  • Pass and get into position to: help a team-mate, …
  • Avoid unnecessary confrontations.

Crossing and finishing

Crossing and finishing can be a difficult skill but it can be simple if executed correctly. This type of play can be used when the attacker has been pushed out into the wider play. The ball into the box can be hit with pace or could be floated into the box with less power.

Finishing from a corner or a cross can be difficult but if the attacker can lose the defender or get above his opponent he can apply the finish. The corner needs to have night and pace applied so the attacker can move onto the ball.

This shot shows the attacker finishing the ball toward the bottom corner drawing out a diving save by the keeper.

One way to improve on finishing the cross is by putting power behind the ball to make sure the keeper can’t save it. Other way of finishing the shot is by placing the shot first time out of the keepers reach. This makes it hard for the keeper to adjust to make a save. Another way too apply the finish is too put the ball on the keepers weaker side (the side that the goalkeeper has less momentum going too) so it makes it extremely hard or impossible for the keeper to adjust or get back into position.

Attacking and defending

Attacking is a key skill to know for a forward role in football. The player needs a eye for goal and keen to find options to create a goal.

On the other hand defending is a key skill to know as a defender role in football. This type of player needs to be aware of his space and where the players on the ball are. A defender also needs to time is tackles so he does not draw out a foul. If the defenders timing isn’t right he/she could risk of giving a free kick or foul. The defender needs to stand side on to the forward so the attacker doesn’t run past him/her easily. This technique gives the attacker less space because he can’t gain the ground to strike the ball.

This is a example of standing side on in a 1-on-1 situation. The defender is sticking to his man and pressing him wide away from goal.

Strengths: I can jockey a player when he is on the ball well and keep him at bay so he can’t get a cross into the box or make a attacking move. I can also get the attacker away from goal and push them wide so there is no threat.

Weakness: I need to learn on how to adjust my body to be able to move forward on goal. To improve my attacking ability I need to be able to use all my key skills and get closer to the the goal so I can score or pass it off.

Turning

There are different types of turning in football like a hook and cruyff turn. There are many turns cruyff, drag, hook, step over and stop turn. The cruyff turn is when the player drags the ball behind his weak foot to be able to turn away from a defender easier

This turn is used to quickly put your back in defenders and find a pass. This is so the team with the ball can keep the possession.

I think I can improve on my turning by improving my agility. When improving my agility it makes me turn quicker with the ball. This give me more space and time to pass.

Strengths: I can successfully do the cruyff and hook turn off easily. I can also successfully do most of these turns with composure and getting into position.

Weakness: I need to improve on learning all the different types of turns and techniques so I can get out of tight spaces. If I learn these types of tricks I can move more freely on the ball and be more confident receiving the ball.

week 4-Dribbling

Dribbling in football is a skill that a lot of players adapt to so it is easier to play the ball up the pitch. There are different types of dribbling using all the parts of the foot. For example a player can use inside, outside and soul of your foot. It’s used in small compact areas to find space to pass the ball of or shoot.

I can improve my dribbling by getting better at my first touch so I can move the ball more frequently and confidently in between players. These are the most simple techniques when dribbling with the ball. When using the soul of the foot to dribble with it’s mainly used when a player is pressing the man with the ball in large areas.

Strengths: I am good at using all parts of my foot to dribble with in areas of need. I can hold off a player when on the ball successfully.

Weakness: I need to improve how to move the ball faster with all parts of my feet. I could improve on how to move the ball through players when on the ball to make space. I need to improve Getting the ball in tighter spaces and hold the ball up with more than one player attacking the ball.

Controlling the ball

There are many different techniques on controlling the ball. You can bring the ball down with your chest, thighs, inside of your foot and laces. When controlling the ball with the chest the ball has to hit your chest central. The chest must be in so the ball is cushioned on impact.

This is the simple way of controlling the ball from a high or median height. This is used to either take the ball down or to first time pass it to a player.

I think I can improve in this by using less power in my kicks towards the ball. Doing this makes the ball go off target. When I use less power I need to focus on controlling the ball down with the inside or laces of the boot.

Strengths: I can control the ball with my laces and thighs so it drops in front of me to push out. I am also good at getting my body in position to receive the ball.

Weakness: I need to improve on controlling the ball with different parts of my body like my chest and inside the foot. I also need to improve my touch when the ball is coming with speed.

Passing

There are two main types of passing in football. For example short and long passing. Short passing is a pass between 10-20 yards along the floor to the players feet. The long pass is a pass from 30 yards and more. It’s a pass that can be played along the floor or in the air.

This is a simple technique on kicking the ball in a straight line. Slowly pushing the side of your foot into the middle of the ball. This technique is mainly the best one because it’s simple and easy to learn.

I think I am good at this pass/ technique because I can use the technique easily and successfully to pass the ball in a straight line to the teammate. I can use this well because I have good balance and I am able to keep up and pass it accurately.

Strengths: I can accurately pass the ball to a player and pick out a pass from close in and far away on a pitch. I can pick out a pass with the right amount of power for the ball to be able to stop in a good position for the player to turn with it or to touch it down easily.

Weakness: I need to improve on the flight of the ball so the player doesn’t have to adjust his body to touch down the ball. Also I need to learn to adjust the curve on the ball when the wind has picked up on the pitch.
